What it does

Every tiled wall has to stop somewhere.

This is how ours stops — a moulded ceramic cap that runs along the top of a run of tiles and closes it, the way a picture rail closes a wall. Hand-glazed in our studio in the same gloss white as the ground of our Delft tiles, so the edge reads as one surface rather than two decisions.

Set it at dado height above a vanity, along the top of a splashback, or where a half-tiled bathroom gives way to paint. It works as a chair rail on its own, and as a border between a tiled field below and a plain wall above.

The line that tells you the wall was finished on purpose.

Pre-order: the first run dispatches from 1 October.

Sold as a single piece, 200 × 50 mm — five to the linear metre.

Details & care
  • Dimensions: 200 × 50 mm
  • Profile: moulded — a rounded roll with a fine bead beside it, so the cap sits proud of the tile face
  • Coverage: five pieces to the linear metre
  • Material: earthenware ceramic, gloss glaze — heat, scratch and water resistant
  • Glaze: the same gloss white as the ground of our Delft tiles
  • Made: hand-glazed and fired in our Sydney studio
  • Care: mild detergent or vinegar with water, wiped with a soft cloth
Where it goes

The cap runs along the top of a tiled run and closes it.

  • At dado height — the classic chair-rail line, usually somewhere between 900 mm and a metre off the floor
  • Above a splashback — where the tile stops and the wall carries on
  • Half-tiled bathrooms — capping the tile and giving the paint a clean edge
  • As a border — framing a field of motifs above or below

Suited to splashbacks, bathrooms and laundries when properly grouted.
