The hand behind it

A grid, drawn freehand. The lines cross where they cross, a little wide here and a little close there, and the green sits in the glaze with the softness of a pencil rule on good paper. It is the plainest of our patterns and the one that shows the hand most, because there is nowhere for the brush to hide.

Eighty-five millimetres of it. Room for a single stem, a little foliage or a handful of foraged blooms: a rose from the garden, a sprig of something from the roadside, whatever the day offered. On a sill it reads as a small green window. On a desk it keeps company.

Drawn and painted by hand in our studio, then glazed and fired, and no two come out the same. That is not a flaw we tolerate. It is the reason to have one.

Details & care
  • Height: 85 mm
  • Material: earthenware ceramic, gloss glaze
  • Made: drawn and painted by hand, glazed and fired in our Sydney studio
  • Variation: no two are alike — the brush moves a little differently every time, and we let it
  • Care: mild detergent or vinegar with water, wiped with a soft cloth
Shipping & returns

While there is one on the shelf it ships within days; once a design is sold through we paint the next to order, and that takes 1–3 weeks. Domestic orders ship via AusPost; international via FedEx — tracked, with all duties and import taxes covered by us.

Shipping is free over AUD $1,000; otherwise calculated at checkout. Change-of-mind returns are accepted within 30 days for whole, unused orders, less a 15% restocking fee. Full returns policy. If yours arrives damaged, write to us and we’ll make it right.

Questions, answered

What goes in it? A single stem, a little foliage, or a handful of foraged blooms — a garden rose, a sprig of wattle, whatever the walk home turned up. Dried stems and grasses sit well too, and it holds its own empty, as a small ceramic object on a shelf.

Will mine look like the photograph? Close, and not exactly. Each one is painted by hand, so the pattern lands a little differently every time. That is the part we would not trade away.

Can I order more than one? Yes. They are painted as a family, so the designs sit together on a sill or a table. If you would like a set painted in a particular colour, write to us before you order.
